The meaning behind DÅÅTH (The Band) - Complex Version The meaning behind Daath is complex, though with a little explanation the concepts should become clear and understandable.
Primarily, our band is an exploration of the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life and or Death is part of a mystical belief spanning many cultures including the Egyptian, Sumerian, and Hebrew traditions. The tree is unique because it has a dual meaning. On the one hand it is the system that describes universal creation, but on the other hand it is a model for the mind of man. In this way man can be seen as the whole of the universe in miniature. Our primary use of the Tree of Life is psychological. We feel that since the tree of life mimics the human mind as closely as it does that it is an excellent system for artistic expression. To begin with, we must first understand the basic structure of the Tree of Life. On the tree there are several nodes, or "Sephiras" which are connected. Within the various belief systems which incorporate the Tree there is a varying number of accepted nodes, or "Sephiras." We accept that there are 13 visible nodes and 1 hidden one, Daath. The best and easiest way to understand these nodes is to view them as different aspects of the human brain. (See Fig 1)
Now you may ask, "How does Daath fit in?" This is where things may become a bit difficult. Mystically, when creation began there was a fundamental rupture or flaw. When the masculine force(wisdom) conjoined with the feminine force(underdstanding) an imbalance occured. The result was the broken node, Daath, or knowledge. This broken node resulted in the creation of the lower part of the tree. Mystically this story has many parallels with Adam and Eve eating of the fruit of knowledge and the resulting fall from grace.
Since Daath is ruptured, the smooth connection between the instincts and the intellect is also disrupted. This disruption, in our opinion, is that which causes most of the strife in the world. This fundamental knowledge is vital for the human psyche to function properly. The attainment of this lost or broken knowledge is truly the restoration of balance in the mind. We feel that by exploring and expressing these imbalances we can eventually overcome the psychological blocks which impede our growth as human beings. The meaning behind "The Tree of Death" Now you may ask what the Tree of Death is. The Tree of Death is simply a way of describing an imbalance between one area of the brain and another. Lets examine two different nodes(See Fig 3). Geburah (judgement) and Chesed (mercy). In order to be a healthy individual one must have a good balance between these two areas of the mind. For instance, having a healthy amount of Geburah (judgement) will give you enough self determination to stand up for what you believe in and not be pushed around, however, having too much judgement will make you a tyrant unsympathetic to anyone else's needs. On the other hand, Chesed (mercy) is essential to empathize with other individuals, however, having too much mercy will leave you vulnerable to the pressures of everyone else's wants and needs. So you see, an over abundance in one area of the mind without the balancing force of the others will ultimately lead to mental illness, or what is metaphorically called the Tree of Death. ![]() How albums are arranged As you may know, our band is an exploration of the Tree of Life in man, or simply put, an exploration of the mind in man. Each of our albums will be exploring the different nodes or areas of the human psyche. Within each node, or Sephira, is yet another tree. Therefore, DÅÅTH will ultimately be a 13 album project with each album having 13 songs.(See fig 4) This current album, "The Hinderers" explores the adverse side of wisdom. Each of the 13 songs is a different aspect of the negative attributes of that node.
How lyrics are used in DÅÅTH You may be wondering how we derive the lyrics for each of our songs. Again, this is where things may become complicated, but i will do my best to explain. Each of our songs is an aspect of the adverse side of the human psyche. Using Gematria we research and data mine the theme for that song. Gematria is a sort of Numerology that uses Hebrew characters to derive values. Each of these values hold with it a particular meaning. Data mining for a song will eventually yield the meaning for that song. An example is as follows. The above is a very basic example for the song "Festival Mass Soulform." Of course, there are many other attributes which make up this song. Each song can have as many as 250 attributes to choose from,. As you can see, we have an abundance of data to work with from which to derive our lyrics. How symbols are used in DÅÅTH Each of our songs has a unique symbol. (See Fig 5) Each of the symbols are derived using sacred geometry. Sacred Geometry is basically using what we know about the song and rendering it into symbolic form.
The Eye of DÅÅTH The eye of daath is the main glyph that our band is indentified by and it has a specific meaning. It represents the eye of knowledge by which all creative intelligence enters into our world. If the eye is fully open the intelligence is so destructive that all life will cease to exist individually. If the eye is fully closed there will be no intelligence to animate the physical realm. This is why we depict the eye partially open. When the time comes for this realm to enter a new paradigm the eye will fully open, consuming this realm enteirely. The star also loosely represents Sirius, The Dog Star.
